GET TO KNOW OUR RAW MATERIAL CONTROL

Grupo Boticário follows national and international standards for the use of safe ingredients in the formulation of its products.

We also follow the most rigorous quality control, efficacy and toxicological analysis processes to ensure that both the ingredients used and the products developed are safe to use.

ABOUT HEAVY METALS

The Grupo Boticário‘s products do not use heavy metals as raw material, always following national and international control standards.
Where is it found? When present in cosmetics, these components are found as “traces” from residues of raw materials, that is, levels below which could have a systemic effect on the organism.
The various regulatory bodies determine criteria for the presence of heavy metals in cosmetic products, restricting their maximum concentration.

Why is it questioned? Some heavy metals are directly associated with their toxicity, and exposure to high concentrations and over time can be related to chronic diseases and serious intoxications. However, within the established safety limits, they pose no risk to human health.

In the Grupo Boticário: we do not intentionally add heavy metals to our products. We have adopted a rigorous process of evaluating our raw materials to control the presence of possible unavoidable traces of heavy metals and to ensure that they are below levels considered safe.

Did you know? Although metals are seen as villains for human health, some of them, such as zinc, copper, cobalt, selenium, barium, are considered essential for the human organism.

1,4-DIOXANE

Where is it found? 1,4-Dioxane is a substance that belongs to the family of ethers and can be found naturally in some foods, such as tomatoes, chicken and coffee.
This substance is the result of a chemical process called ethoxylation and is used to give raw materials surfactant properties.
Why is it questioned? 1,4-Dioxane is questioned because it is suspected of some unwanted effects (such as nausea, irritation of the eyes and the respiratory system), in addition to being identified as a possible carcinogen if there is frequent exposure to high doses.
At Grupo Boticário: we do not use 1.4-Dioxane in any product.
However, the substance can be found as an impurity in some raw materials. It may be an unintended by-product of ingredients such as: PEGs, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, polyoxymethylene, -et or -oxynol, poloxyethylene, ceteareth, polysorbate-20 and 60, sodium laureth sulfate and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil.

Following international organ criteria, the quantities of such substance in cosmetic products are considered safe with strokes of up to 10 ppm (parts per million).
We have adopted this limit for products aimed at the adult audience and for children’s products with a maximum concentration of 4ppm, these concentrations being very low and without any risk to our consumers.
We work together with our suppliers to avoid contamination by 1,4-Dioxane as much as possible during the product manufacturing process, in addition to having a super-prepared team to test and ensure the safety of our products to deliver the best for you.
