3D Skin

We are the first company to develop 3D Skin in the country, by researchers from the Research and Development Center of Grupo Boticário. It is an in vitro model that mimics human skin.

In the laboratory, the skin is formed, cell by cell, layer by layer, just like human skin. First, the dermis is made, composed of fibroblasts, which are responsible for the production of proteins, such as collagen, which give firmness and elasticity to the skin.

The next layer to be formed is the epidermis, composed of cells called keratinocytes, responsible for the body’s barrier and protection functions, and melanocytes, which color the skin.

The material is already used for testing raw materials and finished products (creams, lotions and make-up), both for the choice of ingredients to be used in the formulations and for the safety of the products.

The technology is an alternative method to animal tests for the cosmetic industry, recognized by the National Council for Animal Experimentation Control (Concea) and by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

To create the 3D Skin:

Cells isolated from tissue discarded from plastic surgery are used

Donor consent is required for this purpose

Approval by the Ethics and Research Committee

More advantages:

Avoids animal testing in the cosmetic industry

Reduces the number of tests with humans

Greater fidelity and reliability to product tests

Possibility to test various formulations and choose the best in terms of effectiveness
